The devil does not wear mommy jeans: what not to wear to work
“Dress for the job you want not the job you need”
Work attire can be the
make or break of your career. For whatever reason, it’s harder for us plus size
women to hide our curves. Not that we want too, but in a work environment it is
critical to wear the appropriate attire to not only land the job of our dreams
but to be recognized beyond our looks.

Rules:
v
Blazers
are a girl’s best friend- always have a black fitted blazer in your car it will
go a long way. You can always dress it up, with beautiful accessories or dress
it down with a nice pair of jeans.
v
Never wear
reveling clothes to work, no matter how beautiful you look in them. Come on
ladies camisoles and under shirts are cheap (Ross/ Marshalls/ and TJ MAXX)
under $5 each.
v
Don’t
dress for comfort: dress for presence. We as plus size women have great
presence. Let’s show the skinny world what we have to offer.
“Attire is a hard topic to discuss- yet is never overlooked”
DO’s and DON’TS
Apple:
·
You should
wear dresses that stop above the knee; anything longer will turn you into a
box. Make sure you accentuate your hips with a thick belt that will create a
figure. Wear long trousers that flare at the bottom. Don’t wear anything that
is tight fitting it will create a bulging effect. No matter what the biggest
fashion don’t is to be plane Jane. Always and I do mean always add your own
flare to any outfit.
Pear:
·
With your
beautiful pear shape you most likely have a smaller bust with fuller hips
because of this we want to balance your figure out. This is easily accomplished
always wear dresses that create volume on your bottom half. If you want to show
off your waste wear jackets that are fitted and cut in at your waste. Always
make sure your shirt or jacket’s stop right before your hips. Don’t wear
anything that cuts you off at your hips it will create a wider you.
Hourglass:
·
Your shape
is desired by most women but least desired by YOU. You might feel like
everything is showing all the time. To help you show off your full figure while
staying covered up at work you can use pencil skirts that will accentuate all
of your beautiful curves paired with a button up silk top that’s tucked in.
This look will show everyone who’s in charge. Don’t wear low cut shirts or
short skirts because it will give off all of the wrong signals.
Strawberry:
·
With a
strawberry shape just like mine you must be ready to put on a magic show at all
times, because your specialty is to create and illusion that you’re top and
bottom half match. Having a strawberry shape I have mastered the art of
illusion wearing full figure “A” line skirts to create volume and synching
belts to create a fuller hip. Also when it comes to jackets or blazers remove
all shoulder pads.
Rectangle:
·
Your
figure has nothing to hide. Wear dresses that flair at the natural waste line
to create a voluptuous waste. Boot cut slacks that flair give good high and
show off your frame. Also always have slim belts available to you in order to
synch in your waste. Look for draping in dresses and blouses to help create
volume in your more petite areas.
